Final night

Well, tonight is the final night. Been a long road, but we're here.

I have updated marks for most, but some will not be happy. Look at your own blogs and see if you have all of the iTunes U posts done. All four are already due. If you don't have that done, then prepare to be disappointed. I will do this first.

Keep in mind that tonight is the night to drop the class without full disclosure.

I have an APA style paper for my class completed. I may or may not present it as a power point to the class. Depends.

Finally, I will have an exam review for us, but it will also be posted on this blog.

iTunes Blog post four

For this last blog post, I'm wondering why. Perhaps you could answer this one with me or for me. Why are the universities and colleges going this route to teaching? What possible advantages are there for them? What possible rewards could there be for how much money they would make? Isn't giving this stuff away for free ... well, free?

How IS your course going, anyway? I've done three lectures in the Yale Astronomy class. The lecture about discovering "Hot Jupiters" was a lot of higher math, but something that I thought was kind of cool.

A good question would be why I wanted to learn it, but ... that's not the point. I did learn about it, man. Something that I wanted to learn about is stuck in my head.

Awesome.

That's the point. Learning stuff I want to learn, man.

Right, off we go.

iTunesU Blog post three

Blog post three:

In about 300 words (please, include some screen shots or other visuals) with using good design principles, tell me about two lectures that you have gotten through in your iTunesU course. A really good idea would be to post a link of the lecture in your post and to provide an embedded link in the post, too.

Like this link or like this one.

Are these ideas that you have posted about things that you are interested in learning in your next phase or level of your education? If not, why did you pick this course to do for this unit?

Due date for this post is on the right hand side of this web page, under "iTunesU unit due dates". Have a look, my mom will.

APA Style report post

This is a picture of the "Old School"; the one that most of you participated in throughout your academic career in high school. The teacher is at the front of the room, acting as a vessel of knowledge that fills the students with the same knowledge.

And this is a picture of a "New School classroom", is the one I tried very hard to set up in this class. Students have a teacher as a focus for learning, using tools like Google, YouTube and Khan Academy to learn material at home and share it/collaborate with others either online or in person with a group of people who are motivated to learn the same or similar ideas.

So the APA Report that you will write will be about 300 words. The subheadings you will use (and write about in your body paragraphs) will be these: "Use of blogs in my learning", "Use of Twitter (or other social networking sites) in my own learning, and finally "My personal ideas about online/blended learning". The other two headings will be, of course, "Introduction" and "Conclusions".

Due April 11 in class.

CA for this course

Here it is, all written up fancy:

I also found the iTunesU Unit for the course, too. Odd that last night I couldn't find it on my laptop. Meh, life goes on.

Here is Post number Two for the iTunesU Unit, too:

In about 300 words, I need you write about how this type of learning might be considered "forward looking". That is to say, write about how this new type of learning is using advances in technology to the advantage of both the person learning and the school or person teaching. Can there be any advantages to this type of "always on" learning? Can there be any cost reductions to using the technology you already use to try and expand how and when you learn new ideas for life or work?

As an example of this new format, I will point you to Remax, the real estate company. As a part of the training for their agents, they are to download an app to their phones and do their training on their own time. The link is here if you are interested.

April 2 night

ok, so... I do have updated marks that I will be showing students tonight. I also have the in class essays marked, too. They will be returned to students this evening.

I was trying to get a most accurate mark for some of my students by checking for blog posts, but the blogs have not been updated.

um, what?

in any case, I will have the students' blogs up to show the rest of the class their own efforts, so tonight might be pretty enlightening.

right, some of what we are going to do tonight revolves around the iTunes U course I have selected for this unit. The link is on the right, so if you are interested, have a peek. Should be a cool one.

I also intend to share the links for the most recent blog post of your classmates on the iTunes U Unit, too. Hopefully well be able to have some "back channel" discussion about online classes, too.

The Culminating Activity is something I've got to show you tonight, too. I will have some discussion of what your PLN should look like tonight, too. We will start the discussion with a you tube video and progress from there. If all goes well, I should have the rubric and list of elements for the assignment tonight too.

Finally, as mentioned above, Id like to be able to show updated marks. Hopefully, with all the blog posts completed.
